Question for all 4.2 owners

RE: Question for all 4.2 owners
Well I emailed LLtek and asked them if there are any other parts to this (the 2.7T cold air intake has several parts) and they replied that this air intake resides in the current airbox, so I don't think there should be any problems right? I would just like to know if other 4.2 owners have this system installed and what they think about it.

RE: Question for all 4.2 owners
I have been interested in a cold air intake as well for my 4.2 Sport. The engine compartment of these cars get so hot that a heatshield or an intake that has madrel bent tubing is needed to grab the cold air. One thing I remember form the A4 days is that a K&N filter insert in the existing airbox screwed my motor (2.8) Here's why: There are multiple air flow sensors inside the air box that monitor air flow and these sensors talk to the ECU to regulate fuel flow to compensate for the variables. Well, it was such a free flow that the ECU could not compensate fast enough and this caused misfires etc. Also, tiny particles of dust where making it through the filter (brand new and properly installed) causing my fuel injectors to clog. Fuel injector cleaner would remedy this, but after 2 weeks of this crap I replaced the stock OEM filter and had no more problems. A mechanic at BARRIER AUDI told me of this possible problem and warned me not to oil the K&N if installed. Now, that is all good and said for the A4, but for the A6, I am not aware of any problems that might occurr. BTW-the insert did nothing for performance/sound--anything. The best bet for any cold air intake (performance wise) is to have a stand alone unit (AEM V2, INJEN) where the filter is located by the lower inside fender scooping up cold air. You also need to have a water bypass valve installed to keep water from reaching your fuel intake system. Don't waste your money on K&N.

RE: Question for all 4.2 owners
I never did like them because of the oil that gets into the MAF, I prefer the panel (dry) K&N just as good without the excess sound also better for fuel consumption you just need to mod the air box a little for more air
