Questions about 01 2.8 purchase
You guy's don't have any noob threads do you? I'm sure I could find something is the search would allow me to search for "2.8"
So I'm a 1.8t A4 guy so I have no idea about 2.8's and even less about A6's. A guy a work with is going to buy an 01 2.8 for his daughter. She doesn't need anything quick, just looking for something good. No idea about what price he's paying and how many miles are on it.
Any problems with the 01's? just usual ABS module, control arms ect??
What should a guy look for if he's looking one over?
-Thanks

X2 what he said. Love my 2.8 just gotta do the maintenance that goes with the car and shell run forever. There are a few cars on this forum that are 2.8's with 170k+ on the clock

My 200QT went 350K before I finally gave up (The car didn't) so in my mind 300K is conservative..

A6 with a 2.8 is a good car. Here is my list of things to look for.
1. Timing belt, water pump and related stuff. Make sure they are replaced.
2. Typical 2.8 oil leaks... valve covers, cam seals, cam chain tensioner seals.
3. Tie rod ends and control arms.
4. cam chain tensioners. Make sure the car does not sound like a diesel.
5. Window guides. Fronts are easy to replace, the rear ones require full replacement of the motor.
6. Transmission fluid and filter change. Definition of lifetime fluid is about 100K miles.

I should be hittin 200k in a couple mos =) on my 99 2.8
the most expensive job was the cam seal leak, covered under extended warranty 4 years ago. everything else has been wear & tear since then... 2.8 motor is solid, and my trans is holding up strong too *knocks on wood grain*
