I am having problems with the lights on my radio/air con/etc. panel.

When I turn on my headlights, everything lights up on the panel but then goes off until only a handful of the buttons are actually lit up. I can get them to light up again by adjusting the fader, but then they go out again!

I've checked with my local dealer but he wants to take the car in for a few days to run diagnostics. Before I resort to that, has anyone else had a similar problem? Could it be a loose connection somewhere?

Sounds like your dimmer switch is going bad. Since it affects multiple lights I doubt they are all going bad. If you have a '02+ then button illumination is controlled over CANbus, which may be trickier to diagnose.
