I ran the ECU yesterday and got the code P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected, the car is a 2000 Audi A6 2.7L BiTurbo Tiptronic transmission. Do any of you guys know what the solution to this is? A friend told me ignition coils but hes not that reliable. Please help

That's just "random", there's no one particular cylinder targeted.
It could be a simple vacuum leak. It could be that the MAF needs cleaned. It could be that you need new spark plugs -can pull'em out and check their condition. It could be a fuel pressure regulator intermittent problem, or even a fuel filter one.
I would first check for vacuum leaks and secondly - clean the MAF.

 

I don't know how you can run an ECU.
You can pull the codes but to run an ECU??

You didn't say what you used to get the codes, if the CEL was on, or why you thought to get them.

The first step with random misfires is to clear the codes and see what comes back. It could be as simple as bad gas.

Thanks guys and yes I meant pull sorry I was typing it in a rush, but Ill reset them and see if it comes back, But I did replace all my spark plugs less than 2 months ago Ill clean the MAF regardless and then see if the CEL comes back on

 

The question is....are you getting misfires? This could be an old code that can just be reset if the engine is runnning fine. If there are no other codes, it will be hard to locate the problem. Random misfires are a not specific to one cylinder, meaning the overall system has a problem somewhere. An intake leak betwen the MAF and the throttle body has been mentioned and is common, a plugged up crankcase ventilation system, low fuel pressure, central mixture problems like a dirty MAF, even a low battery can do it. You may need to dig deeper.

 

Try checking your crankcase ventillation/breather(Spider Hose) hose for any obstruction, leak or loose connection. This is one corrective action recommended by Bentley Publishing for diagnosing this Error Code.

 

There was a recall by Audi concerning the coil packs. My roommate had the same code come up for him a few months ago with his 2003 a6. BUT, it also threw a code for the number 6 cylinder as well. From what I gathered, it was specifically the number 6 that would cause the first issue.

It would be worth contacting a dealer over. They ended up paying for everything, as well as $100 for the tow. The tow was $103, so he ended up paying $3 for it after everything was done.
