Rear Courtesy Lamps

Rear Courtesy Lamps
The rear courtesy ceiling lamps do not work when the door is open. The individual reading lamps work fine. I have replaced the bulbs and also looked at the fuse and everything appears ok. Is there any other area I can check? It is a 2002 A6. Thanks for any assistance.

This may seem a bit juvenile but I am assumingthat you have already checked the A6 owner's manual regarding operation of all of the switches on the rear dome light as it may be possible switch off the door actuation by the dome light switch. I will check my Bentley manual later on today.

RE: Rear Courtesy Lamps
The owners manual isn't very clear on the operation other than what the buttons and switch are for. I didn't see anything that would temporarily shut the rear light off. The courtesy lights under the front seats work well so if there was a switch that would turn out the rear lights, I would think it would also turn the lower lights off(?).
Thanks for the help.

the rear courtesy lights have three positions. One position is "on" the next position is "off" and the last position is "on when doors are open". If you look close enough at the switches they have little pictures for each position.
this is how it is on my a6.... i could be wrong but, thats how mine works.
