I own the older body, and with those series all you have to do is press two buttons (one in left and one in right) on the cover and the cover comes out. I'm not sure how the 01 is set up. Should be an easy job.

Is it the new bulb that's burning out or the older ones? Did they burn in an order (ie from left to right...) If the new bulbs burn out then, there should be something different with their specs (resistance of the filament perhaps). If the older ones are burning out, then it may be (just a guess) that the voltage across the bulbs is bit higher than what it should be. Test the voltage with a volt-meter/multimeter. And see if you can find any specs for the voltage online (should be either 5 or 12v).

I have a 2000 A6 and one of my rear window brake lights are out. Could someone tell me what kind of bulb I need to purchase? Should I change them ALL or just one...?

Thanks!
Nic

I finally figured out how to remove the light bar to replace the lights on my 2001 A6. You need to access it through the trunk. There are two metal tabs just below the light that you push in and the bar pops out. I went to Pepboys for the lights. They did not have the exact European model I was looking for, however, I matched up the burnt out light to some that they had. I think I paid just under $3 for two.

The bulb model was 2721 and I found this site that sells them individually:

I was trying to get 5 for myself ( 4.40 ) but minimum order is 19.99usd.

Maybe to avoid spending unnececesary $ we can make one order and split the order and send money trough paypal or other money transfer.
