Rear Deck Brake lights
Hi, I have a few bulds out in the rear deck strip brake light thingy ;}
Has anyone ever replaced any of the bulds, i am sure it shouldnr be difficult,
just never did it before so i am brainstorming.

I own the older body, and with those series all you have to do is press two buttons (one in left and one in right) on the cover and the cover comes out. I'm not sure how the 01 is set up. Should be an easy job.

Is it the new bulb that's burning out or the older ones? Did they burn in an order (ie from left to right...) If the new bulbs burn out then, there should be something different with their specs (resistance of the filament perhaps). If the older ones are burning out, then it may be (just a guess) that the voltage across the bulbs is bit higher than what it should be. Test the voltage with a volt-meter/multimeter. And see if you can find any specs for the voltage online (should be either 5 or 12v).

Funny because my brake light was on . . .Changed it 2 saturday ago. Then the dash went out indicating brake light. Then it came back on last Saturday - So I changed all o the brake lights and now it is gone again.

I finally figured out how to remove the light bar to replace the lights on my 2001 A6. You need to access it through the trunk. There are two metal tabs just below the light that you push in and the bar pops out. I went to Pepboys for the lights. They did not have the exact European model I was looking for, however, I matched up the burnt out light to some that they had. I think I paid just under $3 for two.
The bulb model was 2721 and I found this site that sells them individually:

I was trying to get 5 for myself ( 4.40 ) but minimum order is 19.99usd.
Maybe to avoid spending unnececesary $ we can make one order and split the order and send money trough paypal or other money transfer.
