Yeah I have the rear shade on my 02 A6 2.0l petrol, and I havent seen any other A6 with it in Ireland, (have the leather too)I do notice on the back roads that the top of the shade is a bit wobbly, should I leave well enough alone or try tightening it!?

Same for me and my 03. I guess it is an option but I bought if used. Actually, The 03 overall, is a much "funner" car to drive.

Hmmmm.... Keep your eyes peeled for "For Sale Posts" of a '01 black 4.2, 45000 miles, with a "working" rear window shade. I'm kinda wanting to try out one of those S4's.

How wobbly is it? Is it after you applied the grease?? I mean,I don't see it wobble at all, so I don't know the exact area to look for tighting it.

No wobble here. Full up or down.

OK, I am fighting the same thing. I pulled the shade out slightly to the point it won't go back in all of the way. Then I figured I check the fuse since it didn't seem like a stuck motor. Once I pulled the fuse I pushed the button and it DID NOT CLICK. Put the fuse back in and it clicked. At this point I began to get flusted and pushed the button several time (more than 50). I'll be damned if the thing didn't go up. I left it up so I could lube it and see what hampens? I hope it goes all of the way back in. But I guess if its sticking out about 1/2 inch it will be fine too.

You need to use a Q-Tip that was submerged in your favorite oil to get lubricant inside of the track without removing the unit and to avoid spraying the fabric with oil. It's possible to bend down the thing slightly while your hand/fingers push an end of the Q-Tip into the track while you move it through the track. However, since it is stuck and you need to have the sleeve distribute the lubricant I suggest placing the rpm at 5,000. This should raise the voltage somewhat to give the motors that extra torque that is needed until the lubricant is full distributed. If not, you can manually move the arms by pressing against the fabric in a clever way.

Note that there's a computer lockout to prevent overheating of the motors, so you will need to stop for ?3? minutes or so before you do it like 10 times to ensure it is fully lubricated. My theory is that some people don't know this so they replace a fuse and think they even blew a fuse since it will work after the fuse is replaced.

As a test to see if you did the job properly, turn the brights on while the car is off for a few minutes to lower the voltage back down. Then, while the lights are still on and the car is still off, try to lower the shade (at low voltage/torque). If it does this a few times in a row you're done.

The quality control testing is definitely needed because the whole issue is somewhat intermittent, and it's hard to see if your Q-Tip is really deep enough in the groove. So, you might not really get the oil where it is needed, and you may need to try a few drenched Q-Tips before you're really done.
