Default Rearview mirror issue

I owned a heavily modified 1998 Audi A-6 and as of lately my self auto dimming rearview mirror "bled out". Let me explain; looking into it the top half is clear and the other half, below a very distinctive line,is darker and it looks like it has collected some kind of fluid.
I was contemplating of replacing it with a mirror that has a compass in it from a later model A-6 and I was wondering if that is doable. Is there any wiring involvement with this or is the compass independently functioning from inside the mirror itself? Again most importantly will it be a "plug and play" installation, or is it a "no go"??? If anyone has any experience in this topic or any advise for that matter it will be very much appreciated. should I go back to a non-compass O.E.M model??? Thank you all in advance.

Default Same issue here...

I'm having this same exact problem and was looking at the ones with the compass also...I don't know if it would work either but if anyone has an answer you'll be helping two of us out!

+1

I understand it is plug-and-play.

Default No can do..........

Upon further investigation, I was told that the compass mirror is incompatable with the car. If you are very electricallly incline you might be able to rig it, however there are sensors and other electrical attachments that must happend before the mirror would function. Good luck with that!!!!
I am sticking with O.E.M. minus the compass as much as I would like to have it. I found one brand new from ECS Tuning, O.E.M., pricey ($ 373 to include shipping) and that is what I bought and had it installed. It comes with a warranty

The company who made them can give you a replacement for much less than a new/used one: http://www.sybesmas.com/contact.html. They'll ask for pictures of the connector and what not, they'll send you a new one and you send back yours to get your deposit back. All in all i think it's around $100. (deposit is 200-300 tho)
