Default TT Rearview mirror

I just replaced the windshield on my 2001 Q roadster. Elite Auto glass did an OK job, but now the rear view mirror is loose. I removed it easily and it appears there is a plastic fitting attached to the windshield that engages a spring steel clip within the metal block that holds the universal joint socket & mirror. It appears the block rotates onto the plastic fitting pushing the two arms of the metal spring apart. It requires lots of force and I'm afraid I'll rip the plastic mounting hardware off the windshield.

Has anyone done this before? Any advice welcomed.

Be firm. Fit at an angle and rotate it clockwise. It should click into place.

Many thanks. I'll do it. Hate to break things by forcing so the advice is most welcome.
