Well today was the first real day I got to drive my car. And of course, the brakes started acting up.

It's most noticeable at low speeds through a parking lot, or when coming to a complete stop at the stoplight. When the car is reaching a stop, 15 M.P.H. and under, the brakes squeak VERY loudly. I know I probably just need new pads and rotors, but I don't have the money for those right now. Is there any temporary fix to at least stop the noise?

I dont think there is a way to actually stop the noise other than replace the pads. can you DIY cause that will cut down on the cost!

If you don't fix those brakes, the squealing will soon be followed by a loud "crash".

I had to live with a squeaky wheel for about 10 months. I didn't notice the noise until after I took it off the lot and got to drive with the windows down. The car is CPO. Anyway, until the brakes got below 6 mm or whatever the minimum was, Audi would not replace them under the man-war. By the time the brakes were below that measurement, I was out of CPO and had to pay out of pocket.

You can have them checked out, but unless they are at the limit, you may have to live with the noise.

My brother can probably help me do them myself. Anybody have suggestions for brake pads/rotors that work best?

This might sould a bit crazy but when I do brakes I usually replace the calipers (I get loaded rebuilt calipers) and rotors - especiallywhen I do the rears. SometimesI'll do pads and rotors on the front and once in a great while I'll do pads only on the front - but only if the rotors look good.

The reason I do everything on the rear is that they last longer and have more time to get hung up. Additionally thee-brake complicates thingsbecause the pistons have to be rotated as they are compressed (Yes I have a special tool) but many times they are uncorporative. As a DIYer it is better to have all the stuff available so the car dosen't get tied up if other parts are needed.

Bottom line front easy -- rear can get complicated.

I have new brakes...calipers..rotors, and pads. They squeek to high hell and I have a ton of brake dust. 800 miles and still squeekin!!!!

ok i also have the squeeking brakes STILL i got hawk blue pads and everything ... they are still acting up i dont even think you understand the noise ... it is ridiculous and alot of times my foot wont even be on the brake pedal and it will go squeek squeek down the road and sooooooooooo loud when i apply the pedal ... i put cream on the back of the pads n changed to hawk blues which everyone said were good but i need this fixed like now its real embarrassing .... other audis had slotted n drilled rolors .. anyone think this will do the trick?
