Default Replace door lock motor

98 A6 quattro 30V - 160K

My drivers side lock motor no longer works, it started to fail last week. It would only lock about half of the time, the other half I had to put the key in the door to lock it. All of the other doors still work and the alarm arms after I lock the drivers side door.

Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace the lock motor? I have take the door panel off and verified that the motor is getting power but is looks like the motor is dead?

Also does any one know where I could buy the new motor?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

a new one is $220 at the dealer I didnt have much luck finding a new one at a better price anywhere else either so I found a used one on ebay for $60

Its not to0 bad a job to change just a bit of a pia to get it in and everything hooked up to it. The trickiest part is figuring out how to remove the door handle as it must be removed to get the key lock linkage out and back into the new latch assembly. also be carefull with the plastic clips that hold the linkage rods in place they are somewhat delicate.

To remove the outside door handle there is a keeper plate inside the door with a lock tab you must pry the lock tab up and slide the plate towards the front of the door. you dont need to completely remove the outside handle but it has to slide outward to let the key lock move out enough to fit back into the new latch assembly.
