I have 1999 A6 avant. This model seems to have a unique third brake light. Passats and A4 avants from the same year are different. (why is anyones guess) Mine is the type that is removed from outside vehicle, two small plastic tabs cover two long "tamper proof" screws. The bulbs are not replaceable unless I were to cut the thing in half and solder in new ones, I'd rather not do this if I don't have to. I haven't been able to find a replacement for sale anywhere. Has anyone ever replaced this type of third brake light? If so where did you get it? If not is there a way to disable the annoying beep that goes off everytime i hit the brakes?

 

Did you ever find a solution to your problem with the third brake light? I have the same problem. The bulbs still work except 2 of them dim a little. but the buzzer goes on often when I brake and drives me nuts. Were you able to disable the warning light? I hate spending $110. Any solutions
