Default Replacing Auxiliary Fan

My dad has a 98 A6 2.8 and needs the auxiliary fan replaced. He asked me if i would be able to do it to save him the cost of the labor. I was trying to find out how difficult of a job it would be before attempting it. Anyone have any experience in changing these out? Thanks

It's not hard but the whole front end needs to come off the car as dose the core support. It is probably a 4 hour job

If it is the elec fan located on the inside engine compartment should be a 1-2 hour job. I am assuming it will be similar to the 99 A6 I did. You need to remove air intake assembly to get at approx 4 bolts to remove fan assembly and harness the harness clips are a PITA . Shouldn't need to remove front end. I hope the pic I tried to attach came through if not let me know and I will try to e-mail it to you.
Parts should cost you @ $100 at the dealer.

Good Luck

seems like i keep hearing that the front end needs to be removed and then someone else tells me that it doesn't... anyone do this on a 98 or know if it's accessible without removing the front end? thanks for all the help

You have the car how about you and dad poppping the hood and see it if it looks like the pic I included and the way I described it? I replaced a fan on a 99 2.8 30v A6 Avant and I did not have to remove the bumper.
How do you know the fan is bad.
There are quite a few posts on the forums that discuss the same problems and there solutions, check them out.

Good Luck

Take a look at the pic AQ6 put up and see where you stand that's your best place to start. In the end it is not very hard it should not take you more than 4 hours. It can be done in about 1hour but if you don't know what you are doing. It is best that you set aside a good chunk of the afternoon for the job
