Restoring a 1998 Audi A6 2,8
#11
Where I am located (Bahamas) the cheapest you can get this car is about:
$3000 car
$1000 shipping
$2000 customs duty
$6000-total
My estimate is:
$800 car
$1500 interioir
$600 mechanical (belt, oils, etc)
$1500 paint job
$1000 misc. trims etc
$6400 -total
So I know it will be a loss but I thought it would be fun. It does not sound like it will be much fun. The more interioir I can buy at one time the easier the porject will be. Do you recommend a good Audi salvage yard?

I would say find out if it can run with minimal effort like an oil change, jump start, fresh gas. If it runs then it might be worth looking into further. Parts from any 98-2004 A6 (i think) will be interchangeable and if you find a good deal or a decent junkyard you might be able to get most of it cheap enough. I wouldnt rebuild it for the car itself, just as something to flip and make money. Look up the kbb value, half it, and see if thatll do the job. You can find a decent 2.8 for like 3k, so if it takes more than $1500 (including the car itself) dont bother.

Your missing the bigest item -- fixing electrical gremlins..
add another $2,000
Better yet --
get the $800 vehicle
spend another $3,000 for a parts car
Throw away the $800 car and drive the $3,000 parts car
That way you only have $3,800 in the deal.

Why shoot down the dreams of others? I say if you get it running and didn't pay a lot whats the harm? Why does it need a paint job? Mechs only who cares about the seats? a window yes, but why give up with out trying

I have a 99 2.8.......the interior isn't that cheap unless your getting stuff from a junkyard....not to mention the electric wires maybe worn out and what not......it would probably run you a good 2 grand to fully restore the interiors with stuff in good shape.......that's including seats also

Since this 1998 Audi A6 is in the Bahamas, it may have the steering wheel on the right side, instead of on the left side as in the USA. So, be sure to order the correct parts, if the car is a UK Audi with the steering wheel on the right side.
Try www.vagcat.com for their catalog of the European Audi, which covers left and right hand Audi. The USA/Canada engines are not in this catalog.

Now here is the problem, I noticed everyone used Force Five for parts so I contacted them and they convinced me to change out the full interior from tan to black since they had one there in very good condition. I'm waiting for the full interior to arrive, was relatively inexpensive. I understand that these guys are one of the best out there so I will wait and see. I thought I was almost done, but I now have to strip everything again. I do like the idea of going with the black over everyday tan.
