Default reusing crankshaft bolt

'98 a6q 2.8

I spoke with one of the big online parts suppliers, and told me that their shop always reuses this bolt. He said the bolt was robust enough to handle the huge torque that is applied.

Just to be safe I'm going to replace mine but
has anyone ever heard of this bolt breaking?

There is no way that bolt will break, at least not outside a test lab with a 100 ton bolt tester. The bolt might stretch, but it won't break. And, since it is not a torque to yeild bolt, you can safely reuse it. Personally, I would add a little LocTite blue to it.

Thanks, Bob.
Loctite sounds like a good idea.
