Hey guys,

I bought a Vag-com unit off a ebay user named smooth-dealer out of china some where for like $15 but when i hooked the thing up ( after installing the software, drivers and hardware ) and tried to scan for fault codes - i got a message that says - " to access this vag com must be registered or approved by audi" or something to that effect.

Did any one buy from this guy or know of this issue with this type of software? According to the software I was running the ross tech 409.1 , The US version.

The software opened up and allowed me to connect by detecting the usb, ( oh, also, when i set the thing on usb and hit "test" it said it coud not be found until I hit the button that said " force dumb mode" under the cpu section) and then when i went to scan for faults thats when it would not let me access it.

If the guy sold me a unit that cannot be properly used does anyone know how much it costs to register with ross tech etc..

any help would be great.

Only the cable comes from the Ebay guy - The freeB software can be DLed from Ross Tech. 309 for serial version and 411 USB version.
