Secondary air injection fix
98 2.8 Quattro, has secondary air injection flow code and check engine light on, which prevents the car from passing NC emissions check. Any advice on how to repair would be appreciated - car runs fine.
Thanks

Check the fuse to the air pump, condition of the hoses from the pump, etc.The SAI code does not come back on immediatly so you can clear the code with VAGCom just before you go to the inspection station and pass before it returns.
I would make sure that the lines didn't just pop off, or are corroded away. There just cheap hard plastic.
If you clear the codes, it might reset the reediness, & you still will not pass, so check that after a reset.
Also, make sure the engine is hot, so that it doesn't activate the SAI, it only works when the car is cold.

What is the readiness you talk about? Don't shops use the OBD (VAGCom) to do emissions etc?
I just clear the codes on my 97 Avant and everything is OK forinspection. It passed when I got the car a few months ago. It alsopassed a few weeks ago when itwas in for a wheel balance and the shop ran a full diagnosis to see if they could get me to agree to more work. I will do something with the SAI when it gets warm but for now I'll just reset it every week or so.
