Hello, I'm having an issue with my 2000 A6 4.2 transmission. I replaced the TCM recently after the drains clogged and flooded my module. Only one small problem, after clearing codes ( vag com ) on TCM and ECU, the car only briefly engages in drive ( about 1 full second ), reverse works fine. Looking at the measuring blocks, I can see the solonoids energize. The measuring blocks do indicate that the MFS is operating and sending gear shift selector location.
When it's engaged for that 1-1.5 seconds, it does not slip, you can " smoke " the tires. After that second, it feels like nuetral, no matter what gear you select. One thing I did see displayed that has me puzzled, when looking at the measuring block that shows what gear your " actually " in ( not what gear you selected ) it displays " 1M in when park is selected, it also shows 1M when " D " is selected. Is that normal? " N " shows up when in nuetral, " R " shows up in the block when in reverse. Why does it show 1M in " D "?

I would take a close look at the plug that plugs into your tcm pull on the wires and make sure nothing has corroded and is coming apart. I would also coat it in dielectric grease to stop any ongoing corrosion.

 

I have cleaned my connector pretty well and sprayed with contact enhancer. I'll start taking MA readings for each solonoid. I did check the trans. fluid last night, with vehicle at temp., plug removed. I found that there was no fluid I could touch with my finger through the hole. I also expected to lose some fluid through the hole when I shifted it into reverse, but didn't.

I'd suggest start with the fluid level. ATF evaporates as any other fluid.
What does happen when drive on manual?
Do the solenoid test and shake them.

Next think to look is the gear selector switch.
