mine does that. Though im pretty sure it was a result of my gf spilling coke down into the shifter. I tried to clean it up but i think is seeped down into the shifter and causes my tip to not register unless i push on it with some force.

"Manual"? We're talking about a CVT here; right? I guess I'm having a difficult time wrapping my brain around a "Manual Mode" as a component of a CVT.

let me ask u this before we can rule out usn bmw22 suggestion. When u put it in tip mode (shifting mode) do the gear numbers light up when u cannot shift or does it still say the normal prnd? IF ur gears numbers show but u cant shift then i would say its ur tranny. If not i woudl say ur tip mode is not engaging at the shifter and wouldnt be concerened with the transmission.

Pa4ul there is a printed circuit board on top of the shifter mechanism which probably shorted out. its easy to replace.... but probably a little pricey.
WaWa..... I would lead to think this is your problem as well. Aslong as your DID dsiplay isn't all red when you come across this problem

well i had checked my circuit board. It looks fine. Just sometimes it wouldnt engage the shifter. I had to kinda slap it around a bit to get her to engage. LOL sounds so dirty! But she still shifts when need be. only on highways though. Need to conserve gas!
