Default signs of turbo failure?

My 00 2.7t 6psd makes some wierd noises upon driving right after start up. it sounds kind of like a police siren and almost like a slight grinding from the right side.. only does it for about a min or 2 and then stops. The slight police siren style whistle is pretty constant though.

I hate to say it, but the "police siren" noise is usually indicative of a turbo starting to fail. You could have split a turbo-to-intercooler hose, which would make for a more pronounced turbo whine. One quick-and-dirty check you can do: pull off that turbo-to-intercooler hose (it's cake to get at) and see if it's full of oil. It's usually the the seals on the turbo shaft that go first, blowing oil down into that lower tube. If you pop it open and get oil pouring out, you have your answer. (A little bit of oil residue is normal, though. I'm talking about enough to pour out).

How many miles does your car have on it? If it's more than 100k, it could easily be the turbo. Have you felt a loss in power?

Do some searching around on the A6 turbo issue; there is lots of commentary on options if you have a turbo that fails.

it has exactly 100k on it right now.. i bought it with 93 on and its mad the noises ever since. It also has misfired on occassion since i bought it. Dealer has tried to fix it 3 times and is wrong everytime. They gave me 2 new ignition modules, new egt sensor for bank 2 because the codes that come up are mis fires on 4 5 and 6. i just went out and checked the hoses.. if looking at the car from the front.. the left hose is dry and the right one by the oil filter has a little bit of stuff in it.. not enough to drip or pour out though. There was stuff by the house and surrounding parts. idk if its from oil from a oil change or something
