2001 Audi A6 2.7T it has a lingering gas smell in the cabin. I took to the dealership replace the gaskets around the gas tank, I added some xenoite rocks to take away the smell still is in the car at al times. The only way to remove it from the cabin is by turning on the defrost. I put the sunroof down gas smell comes in, the trunk smells like gas as well also when I put down the windows same thing. There is no visable gas leak just want to know what is causing this anyone else have this problem?

 

You need a new gas tank. A new discovery on these tanks that was discovered by yours truely found that the little metal sleeves on the EVAP nipples work their way out and cause the nipple to break off. Gas will then spill out the top of the tank, and if its bad enough can cause fuel puddles on the ground and terrible gas smells inside the car. If you have a warranty i would get this done ASAP.
More and more gas tanks are being replaced here in the Nor Cal area, im not sure ifthe newshas made its way through the states yet.
