Smoke near back of engine

Smoke near back of engine
98 A6. 105,000k on it and now I smell smoke at stop lights. When I get home and open hood, I can see smoke burning probably from dripping on manifold. Looking at the engine from the front, it's coming from left rear engine underneath near the firewall. I can't see the leak. I took off coverings and put a light to it but the oil is dripping down at the bottom left rear engine below the valve cover.. I can get it to drip and burn by pushing up and down on front bumper. Smoke comes up as I'm pushing up and downit and a little after I stop.
I read alot about the valve cover gasket replacement repair but does it sound more like the cam shaft gasket?

RE: Smoke near back of engine
It could be your cam chain tensioner gasket but I don't know if it would drip that much like you say. Are the seals around your valve covers black and dirty? Are the nuts securing the valve covers to the head almost invisible (mucked upandgrimey)? if so they are leaking and you should replace them.
