Default Spark plug/coil pack replacement?

Have an Audi 2002 A6 2.7T and am getting misfire and hesitation while accelerating. Spoke to a "local" shop and they quoted me $1357.07 to change the plugs and all coils??? Can that be right?!

Haven't heard from the dealership yet. Could I do it myself? Can change oil, brakes, tires, but not much for engine work.

Coils are under recall.

Even to have paid for coils + plugs => total ~$300; labor 1.2 h - you make the summary.

$1357.07 - they are looking to have somebody to pay their vacation..

Be careful with this diagnosis. Get the car scanned by a real pro to read out the sensors in real time, something is not right and it may not be the plugs and coils. Poor acceleration can also be a dirty Mass Airflow Sensor or oxygen sensor giving you a bad mixture at certain rpms. It can also be a problem with the turbo controls. The scan will be the best $150 you ever spend on the car. Throwing parts at a modern car is a crapshoot.

Completely agree. Dealership did diagnostics and they are saying its not a "physical" problem, but more electrical... plugs are not good, so they need to be replaced anyways along with the recalled coil packs, but other then that...they have it for a 2nd day!

Have owned an 06 A4 Q for a year now and had a similar problem recently. The coils were replaced for free a few months ago under the recall so that wasn't the cause. The car actually lost speed when I hit the accelerator in the passing lane on the highway. It downshifted a few times and just started losing power. Turns out they needed to replace my fuel pump and cam shaft.
It's under a certified pre-owned warranty so I didn't have to pay the dealer the $1600 but at 47k miles, seems kind of odd to have this problem.

I've got the write up from the shop as to the actual issue that caused the parts to need replaced. It's a bit technical but I can type it out if you're interested.

Losing power under acceleration is mostly fuel system related, but I am really curious how the camshaft needed replacement, very unusual.
