Spark plug question
My check engine light come on so I went to the local Autozone so they could check it for me. The code they got was "Bank 1 & 2 running too lean". I was wondering what could cause this. The guy at autozone said spark plugs but I don't know about that one. I think that maybe I need to run some fuel injector cleaner through my car first. Any help on what could cause this would be great.
I am also wondering when I should change the spark plugs on my car. It has 55,000 miles on it.
Thanks everyone for the help.

RE: Spark plug question
sounds like you have an air leak for both banks to run lean, check the exhaust/intake/vacuum lines for leaks
a spark plug could set the fault if it gave out a weak spark or a misfire I would check them and see if they need replacing or regapping or even just a clean

RE: Spark plug question
How long has it been since you changed the fuel filter?
Also, to go along with Avant80, you may have a failing MAF sensor. I've seen it on a BMW M5, a failing MAF wouldn't meter properly beyond 5K rpms and the engine would run lean.

RE: Spark plug question
Thanks for the help. I will look at the plugs this weekend.
I went to go to lunch today and the check engine light was off. So what ever the deal was it has got over it for now. By the way I was up at 12,000 this weekend so that might have something to do with it. The air is even thin for me up there.
I will also check into the MAF's just to make sure its steal under warranty cause the rest of the car is not.

RE: Spark plug question
Dont even bother looking at the plugs it wont tell you anything
If you can get the non generic codes and they say this at the end (mult) But the generic codes MAY even say this
Then it is defenitly a MAF
Also look at the vacum hoses around the intake

RE: Spark plug question
Ok. I just changed the plugs cause I do believe they have not been changed. The car seemed to be running fine until I had to stop on the highway. As I was coasting to a stop the engine died on me. I pulled over and the it started up like nothing happened. I tried another stop on the highway but this time I had the transmassion in the manual shift mode and it did not die on me. I got home and notice that when I would put the car into Drive it would almost die. I have no clue whats going on so any help would be great.

RE: Spark plug question
I bought a 1998 A6 in 2002 with 45,000 miles. Around 60,000 I changed the spark plugs. They were the original Audi Plugs and had the Audi name and NGK on them. I took them to the parts store and matched them up to an NGK plug, BKR6EGP. There are more expensive NGK plugs 6.99 verses 2.99, but wonder if there will be any difference, I dont drive that hard and the car has 100k miles on it.
