Default spring and shock question??

I was at a very reputable audi perfrmance location. They do work on porsche's audi's and vw's. I was talking to on of the guys there about lowering my audi 01 A6 2.7t q. I told him that i was looking at getting the vogtland lowering springs. these will lowering my a6 ~1.6". my car has about 43k on the speedo with one previous female owner. Talking to the tech he said that if i wasn't running and snapping it too much that the stock shocks would work just fine, they would degradeat about~60-75k miles.
Iam a firm believer in doing a job right the first time. But in the same sense i am only lowering it to have more of an appeal. I have read everywhere that you should change shocks and springs at the same time.

what do you guys thinks? all opinions would be appreciated.
