starting delay
I recently added this but not much luck, was at my audi dealrship for 5 days, replaced the engine start switch and relay. The car is still giving me the same issues. Any ideas or thoughts PLEASE???
Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum ,maybe this has been discussed before, but any help would be appreciated. I have a 2005 A6 4.2l s-line,. The problem I'm having when I go to start it, the car turns over for several seconds I can hear the starter spinning then finally the car starts. I can shut it off immediately, and re-start and it starts just fine. If the car sits turned off for 10-15 minutes then it does the same thing delayed start... any suggestions???

This is just a thought...
If your fuel pump is going bad it might have a hard time getting primed and up to full pressure.. This is the long start..
It will start right back up because the pressure is already in the lines and it just has to maintain it from there forward..
If you let the car sit the lines loose pressure and the pump has to start over..
I don't know if this is the problem but logically it seems like it could be a possibility. I'm not sure how this could be tested .. Maybe have a shop put a pressure tester on the fuel rail and try out the different scenarios.. I haven't worked on audi's long enough to know if even that is possible but I wish you good luck.

I have the same problem on my 99 A6. I have been looking for a solution. Not much info out there. I can start the car after about 10-15 sec. It starts every time, just slow to start. I considered the fuel pump and the whole prime issue, but don't know enough about the way the fuel delivery system on Audi's work.

I would suspect fuel delivery issue. Pressure at the rail should be 4 bar or 58 PSI, plus minus a few. If the pressure is significantly lower, or takes long time to get there, then it is definitely a fuel issue. I would first check the supply and return line for any leaks. Then change the fuel filter. If the issue continues, check the fuel regulator, which is located on the fuel rail. The last resort is the fuel pump. You can access it below the rear seat. Also I would check the wiring to fuel pump to make sure it is well connected and grounded. Hope it works out.
