Default Sticky waste gate

My 2.5TDi auto is juddering around 1500 rpm which according to my local garage is being caused by a turbo sticky waste gate. They have suggested that a new turbo is needed at £1800. Anybody know if its possible to refubrish or has anyone had a similar problem?

A turbo can be re-built, but you could probably find a turbo for cheaper online. You might want to try spraying some PB blaster or something that will dissolve rust on the waste gate actuator and see if that helps. I also believe you can buy a wastegate seperate but if the turbo is that old i would just get the whole turbo. Do some google searches and see what you come up with, im not sure if you can get a turbo from the US since audis here don't have any TDI's. Also search for turbo re-build shops in your area.
