I've been reading this forum for a couple of months now and have decided I better post a topic.

Had my Y-reg A6 2.4 V6 30v Quattro Avant for 3 months now (2nd owner), she's done 75k miles with FULL Audi Service I have put the past 10k miles on her.
Just had a new clutch fitted, and lamba sensor probe, and I now have a strange noise

When accellerating I hear a twanging/rattling sound from what seems like the back of the engine, under then dash towards the windscreen.
It's slowing getting more and more louder and annoying, dealer says they could not hear it.......

When the car is standing still and you accellerate I can't hear the noise

Don't really want to take it back to the dealer as they charge £120 just to investigate a problem, and don't really have any spare cash, as I have just finished work.

Any ideas?

Heat sheilds?

 

Where would you suggest I look for heat shields?

 

Went to local back street garage, and could not see anything with regards to heat sheilds.

With the windows down you can hear it louder from outside the front left window.
Any other suggestions?

 

My 2001 A6 2.8 is doing something very similar....thought it might need a tune up but isn't due yet according to the dealer. I have 70k now. Could there be any commonality?

 

Could be a common thing, although I am not sure. when is your next service due?

The service computer is telling me that I have 6100 miles left before it needs servicing, however the MIN oil warning light has come on permanently now, the noise has got louder and I am sure the cam belt needs to be replace at 80k miles.
