Default Strut Question and Brakes

Im about to change the shocks and struts on my 2001 A6 non quattro. The rear shocks look simple enough no worries there. However is there any special tools or steps taken to change the front struts besides taking them somewhere to get the springs swapped. I was looking around on ebay and came across a Spreader Socket Number 3424 and didnt know if it was needed for my car. I know a 4 wheel allignment will be order after they are changed. What is reccomended for breaking in or "seasoning" new ceramic brake pads and new slotted-drilled rotors? Any help or adivce on these questions will be greatly appriecated. Thanks again to everyone on here. Is anyone from the Dallas Ft. Wrth area on here?

I can tell you ive never used any special tools to remove the strut assembly. There is a special socket that is used to remove the nut on top of the strut, but it sounds like your going to leave that part up to the shop.
