I drive an '03 A6 3.0 which currently has 50,100 miles on it. Just wondering if you think I should deposit the $3000 extended warranty amount in a bank and just hope nothing breaks? From what I have seen in the forum, the A6 2.7 Ts are more prone to breaking down than the 3.0s because of the turbos. Since I drive a 3.0, can I expect it to hold up for the next three years atleast without major problems?

If your vehicle has been well maintained and you feel it is in good shape, then you can gamble. I did not bother with an extended warranty. The only thing it would have covered from 50k to 96k would have been the alternator (which cost me $600). I would not have been allowed to modify the car. And I assume the timing belt would not be covered under warranty as it is scheduled maintenance. So if the extended warranty was $3000, then I am $2400 ahead of the game.
As in any insurance policy, which this is, either you buy it and hope you don't have to use it or you don't buy it and then hope you don't need it. How much risk can you tolerate? If you decide to go without, compare your costs to your savings and either yell at me in 3 years or tell me I was right. I can take either outcome.
