Default swap transmissions

hello i am new here. I saw that a guy here took a audi a6 4.2 engine and put it in a s4 2.7 and kept the 2.7 transmission in it. I wanted to know if i could take the 2.7 transmission and put it into my audi a6 4.2. if so would i have to change much in the rear. the only thing i noticed he did was add a fly wheel spacer. i love the way the audi drives but the trans i have is about dead. thanks

You will need more stuff, as in rear end differential and etc. I believe 4.2 had different gearing than 2.7.

From my basic knowledge, I don't think putting a 4.2 in a A4, or S4 is just a simple replace in the engine bay.

The 4.2 A6 is wider and longer than the regular A6 (in the A6 C5 - upto 2004). The A6 4.2, or S6 is 2 inches longer and 2 inches wider than the regular A6.

If we are talking about the same year S4, I am really surprised that there was enough room in the engine bay to put the 4.2

In later model S4s it might be possible as they did come with naturally aspired 4.2 engines. I can't remember the exact B model.
