Default Synthetic Oil?

The scheduled maintenance interval between oil changes is 10,000 miles on my 2002 A6 Quattro 3.0L. Seems like it is too long. Is it worthswitching to synthetic oil forchanges at 10,000 miles or change with regular oil every 5,000 miles?

No. Pros to the synthetic argument include better mileage, lower wear, and more miles before the stuff breaks down. I still feel a good petroleum-based oil, with the correct viscosity for conditions, is the ticket with changes, including filter, at recommended intervals. <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley1.gif border="0"> My wife's '99 A6q just passed 157K with a diet of Pennzoil and Wix.

Default RE: Synthetic Oil?

I would think your 2002 had synthetic or at least a blend as the factory oil, hense the 10k change interval. I would stick with factory product. As a side note I don't think it is suggested that you ever switch from synthetic back to regular.
