TCM clearing codes

TCM clearing codes
Hey all, got a quick question...
I had a code come up with my transmission and it went into limp mode. Well I had the part fixed.. The TCM is still in limp mode.. Does it need vag-com to clear the TCM of it's fault in order to work correctly or should it clear itself?
