ok guys i have a 99 A6 2.8 Quattro. Took my car to the stealership (I NO! I NO! big mistake already) reason i took it there was because it was recalled recently for something so i figured i would kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Well they charged me about 300 for parts and 100 for labor. My Question to anyone who works for a dealer or a tech is. is this price right??? I was so upset with this price i called around to other local Audi dealers and they told me that i shouldnt have to change the ATF because of the 2.8 set up its made like that. Can anyone help me with this PLEASE?!!!

 

We need to know what the recall was for and what else they did.

I assume they changed the transmission fluid -- but don't know why....

 

The recall was for the headlights or something. Nothing relevant to the Tranny. I had it changed because i bought the car at 100,000 miles its at 117,000 and i was always under the impression that cars should have the tranny fluid changed every 50,000 miles. Why do Audi's not get changed every 50,000? and they changed the gasket and such the whole kit you know. Anyone plz?!

 

Wow. That sounds expensive as hell. And the wiring for the headlights which causes fires is probably what you were referring to?

I'd say you got screwed.

 

Hahaha well i tried calling the dealer today and they brushed me off so i put a stop payment on the check maybe that will get his attention?! hahahaha

 

Not a good idea. Big company will not stand for not being paid for work performed. There is legal recoarse. Yes you paid alot. You knew you would be overcharged and sucking it up would be your only choice.

That said, many people change the oil, filter and seal on the tiptronic transmission. It does say lifetime fluid in the user's manual but in the shop manual it says change. I'll be changing mine as well.

Next time...if you change it again...do it yourself. You can get the whole kit including the necessary oil transfer pump for about $120.
