Tilting mirror problem
Hello!
At the end of November I bought an '04 3.0TDi, which I love. It's been back to the dealership three times, for 2-3 days each time for some niggly things which they have failed to sort – hence the repeat trips! They rang yesterday to tell me that they think I should be able to collect it later today. One of the things it went in for was the nearside mirror failing to dip when I select reverse. They have tried to fix this three times and now inform me that my car doesn't actually do it. It's apparently a function of memory seat spec, which I don't have. Is this right? I've lost confidence in them a bit to be honest, especially when they didn't believe me when I told them it was dumping its washer fluid overnight. They practically told me I was a silly woman! I need to be armed with info when I collect it, so any opinions gratefully received!
Actually, I just remembered something else. The headlamps are set really high and I get flashed all the time. I asked them to check the alignment and twice they said there was nothing wrong. The last time, they said it was tied in with the mirror problem and I wasn't imagining it. So... does this mean that if there 'is no problem' with the mirror, that I'm destined to put up with a bad lamp position? OMG, this gets worse!

the headlights are electrically adjustable by a switch on the dash with 0-1-2-3 positions on it yours should be set to 0 and can be altered depending on how many people are in the car or towing,
the dipmirror is an option so it needs to be confirmed and they know how to check this by the chassis/VIN because the options are on it

Sorry, I didn't say, they are xenons...
and, I've just found the thread on here about the washer fluid dumping from the headlight washer. That's what was happening on mine. Again, a confidence knock for me... if it's a recognised issue, why did it take three goes for them to find it? Especially since I was telling them it was happening so soon after filling?!

Is your passanger side mirror dipping? That is the only mirror that turns downward when you shift into reverse a saftey factor that also helps prevent wheel curbage :^D I thought Xeons have a self leveler to prevent condition you refer to with no ability to manually adjust on the dash. Maybe they need to recalibrate the sensors or the sensors could be bad. Could the car have had some front end damage, this would explain lights and washer fluid problems.
Good luck
Good luck
Sorry.. is this an American forum? I'm in the UK, it's the passenger/nearside mirror.
I've just picked it up and was told that the xenons aren't adjustable beyond the electronic input. They say there isn't a problem with them, although both my husband and I think they are too high and give off a wide, general light as opposed to lighting the left-hand side/kerb of the road. He has a BMW with xenons and his area of lighting is nothing like mine. I appreciate these are different cars, but even so, I don't want to be driving into a wide area of faint light, I'd rather have a focused beam where I need it. Am I being too picky? Should I take it somewhere else and ask for the sensors to be recalibrated?
Can't tell if there's been damage to the front end... bought through a dealership, everything seemed ok....

OK. First the mirror. I'm not sure what you mean by "nearside/passenger" (I think of "near" being closer to the driver and thus driver's side). Assuming you mean "driver's side" (which gets us out of the left/right hand drive issue), the mirror will only tilt down if you have the mirror adjustment control pointed toward the passenger side mirror. If it's not, no tilting.
Regarding the Xenons... They can definitely be adjusted. Not sure about the procedure, but they can be adjusted. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
Good luck.

One of the great features of this and other forums is the search feature as Southboro and others suggest. It offers you a somewhat unlimited information pool. The attached link might will be a good place to start it gives a pretty good explaination of xenon adjustment options.
