Thanks Guys! I thought I'd have the crankshaft seal today, so I could start tightening things up but it didn't show. Maybe tomorrow. Cam seals & valve cover gaskets just arrived.

So, probably both of you are pulling torques from a manual, right. Do you have service manual or repair manual? I've read that repair manual has much more info & is the better way to spend the $. But currently I have neither, so I appreciate info from folks like you. I've only found used service manuals & had been hoping to find a used (cheap) repair manual, but it seems like they're hard to come by. I haven't seen either in detail to judge for myself if the repair manual is better. For now, I'm in no rush, so not willing to buy new...yet. Thanks again.

 

Search Ebay. I actually ended up getting a copy of Elsawin for less than $20.

 

You're wecome. I bought a Bentley manual in great used condition from Amazon...only gave $35 for it. Best money I ever spent.

 

The manual I have does not cover all of the nut and bolt torque specs for this engine. Does anybody have the specs?

i see the answer that 02A6Beau wrote. Does the crankshaft bolt really mean 200 nm plus an additional 180 degree turn? But the answer to you is anything that has to do with the timing belt, crank, idler pulleys, tension-er pulley, water pump. I' was surprised that that manual I got off of tradebit didn't have any torque specs in it.

 

Hey CRUBY, Do you or do you know anybody that has torqued the crankshaft bolt on a A6. I torqued it to 148 ftlbs, then attempted to put the additional 1/2 turn on it. I was able with the assistance of a friend was able to give a 1/4 turn more, I was afraid that the crank lock pin might shear (the crank looked like it was attempting to turn). I checked to see how much the torque increased using the torque wrench and found that with the 1/4 turn more the torque increased to 250 + ftlbs.
