Timng Belt
Hi all. Just finished my timing belt job at 82K miles. New Timing Belt, water pump with metal empeller, thermostat, idler roller, tensioner roller, hydraulic tensioner, tensioner lever, cam seals, cam tensioner gaskets, half moon seals, valve cover gaskets, serpentine belt, coolant flush and new Bosch 710N diverter valves. What a labor intensive job!! Now I see why dealers quote this at $1500. Car is back together now and runs like a champ. It definetly took me longer than 8 hours....more like 16 to 18.
Weird thing though, the old parts looked like new and did not appear to have any wear on them at all. It was well worth it, because I drove the car for the first time since I bought it without the smell of burning oil.

Congrats!
Yeah, the 8 hour estimate definitely isn't for the first timer (damn sure not this timer anyway!)
Did you say a couple prayers before starting it again? lol
The great thing about doing the timing belt yourself successfully on these cars -- is how much less intimidating working on the car becomes.
Service position is now a breeze.

You should be real proud of yourself. That's a big job -- the book rate is 6 hours and that does not include the cam seals and valve cover gaskets, just the TB and associated tensioners, serpentine, etc. They are easily another 2 hours. Keep in mind that dealer shop rates are $125-150/hour.

congrats on doing the job. It took me in excess of 20 hours when I did mine but I had to take a lot of "mental health" breaks. Also, I had to go back in a couple of times to fix a few "oopsies" (who forgets to put the dipstick tube back in? This guy). gave me a lot of confidence in tackling other repair jobs though. definitely worth the time investment imho
