Default Transmission HELP...please i'm DESPERATE

I have a 200 A6 4.2 and the reverse on my transmission just quit on me.
The forward gears work ok but the reverse is not....so I'm pushing a 4,000 lb+ car in parking lots...with a bad back...
The dealer service people told me :"new tranny " for aprox 7k...
I don't have that kind of money...not by far...
What can I do ?

as far as I know it's a new tranny or bust.

you might be able to find a good used one (about $2k+ labor) but that could be hit/miss

Always park where you can pull forward, not backup. It's a tough break - I feel for you man. That's why I prefer an MT6.

If you're not afraid of rolling up your sleeves then you have some good info to work with here!

A good start is to flush the tranny fluid system and fill with new oil and a new filter. That might make it better but it's most likely the F clutch seen in page 31:

A rebuild of a ZF 5HP24 (the AT you have got)

Here's another forum thread regarding this same matter. The ZF 5HP24 AT's are used by Audi, BMW, Jaguar etc.

Great info! Do you happen to know what model ZF tranny is in the 2000 A6 2.7T?
