Default Transmission Problems

I have an Audi A6 1998 Quatro 2.8 Automatic Transmission. The transmission hesitates or vibrates when going in and out of gear. Had transmission fluid partially replaced. It was of no help. Car has 82,000 miles on it. Do I need a new transmission? If so how much does that cost?

as i am not that knowledgable on the transmissions in these cars, i cannot say if you need a new one or not, but if that is the case, on all other cars ive come across a new transmission is normally around 3k+

Does the vibration/shudder occur in every gear or just a certain one. As for holding gears, our transmissions will hold 1st gear longer than what we may consider normal when the fluid is cold. I generally just shift it into second myself as I hate having the engine rev that high when it is cold.

You may consider going another fluid change. Are you sure the level is correct? Are you sure the fluid is the right brand/type? How are your engine mounts?

Jeff

You can pick up a new transmission for about 1600.00. Don't know how much it would be to put in though.

did you perform the tranny drain yourself? If so, did you run the engine and put it in gear for 10 seconds at each gear and then rechecking the fluid level? After doing that the torque converter sucks up fluid so additional tranny fluid is needed.

Question

What do you mean by "Had transmission fluid partially replaced"???
Did you do the job yourself?
Did you replace the filter and cleaned up the pan as well? (Critical)

Short of doing the job right, you improved nothing by doing a "partial" fluid change, so don't expect any results.

You can get an ATF refill kit at www.blauparts.com. However, to get the correct ATF level you need to know the ATF temperature inside the transmission. So you need the Audi shop manual CD (BentleyPublishers.com) and VAG-COM (ross-tech.com).
What ATF did you use?
