Default trouble starting

i drive a 99 2.8qthe other day i was putting gas into my car and when i went to start it, it took me like 5 attemtps to get it started. the next time i went to start my car it fired right up and everytime after that as well. the next time i had to get gas, it happened again. it seems like everytime i unscrew the gas cap i have trouble getting fuel to ignite my engine but after it starts its fine untill i have to get gas. need help.

Hello, I have same problem 3 time after fill up the gas at different gas station. When my gas is low I'm scare to fill up at night? Somebody know about this problem.

This sounds like an AUDI TECH 79 question. I suspect a fuel accumulator leakback problem or maybe you just need a new gas cap.

I'm sure AudiTECH will know!

Totally agreed AUDI TECH 79 knows all.....

I mean I'm no AUDI TECH but I would suspect a new gas cap, do you get a check engine light on after your fill up? Some times if the cap isn't on tight or is cracked and is not sealed properly you will get the CE light. Go get a new cap and give it a shot, whats the worse that could happen? It doesn't fix the issue and you have a new gas cap....

I use to work at a Audi dealer, the most comman problem for this is a bad evap vent valve, had this problem on the wife's 99 A6 no code. changed the evap valve problem gone. If you need I can look up the part number when I get home. at the Dealer the valve should be around $80-90 plus 2 clamps see link for a location picture

If drtymune goes to somplace other than a dealer he can most likely save $30 -50 ---
