My 01 2.7t still has the OEM Turbos (148,000 miles). They are fine
I bought a warranty that covers them upto 240,000 miles.

Where did you buy a warranty from? when did you purchase the warranty (at what mileage)? and most importantly how much did the warranty cost?

Thanks for the info I'll search around for that thread that you made. This may seem like a stupid question and it probably has been asked before but,I was under the impression that not all Audi's were turbo'd. If this is true (besides looking for the turbo) how would I be able to tell if my wife's car is turbo'd? Also when I start the car daily I hear a winding sound like a jet engine. I'll get a sound clip later and post it here. Can I make the assumption that it's the turbo winding up? After about 2-3mins it goes away. I usually let the car warm up for about 2-5 mins before leaving. During winter should I allow the car to warm up for a longer period of time? I've never owned a turbo'd vehicle before so I'm looking for healthy practices to keep the motor strong. I'll start reading up a little more today. thanks for the info and any other opinions are appreciated.
the information is on the log book or whatever you call it over there ( it will say if turbo or not ) and if it is the best I can say is do plenty of oil&filter changes and dont cheat on cheap oil so full synthetic only

Yes, not all are turbo. Usually the badge on the back will say 1.8T, or 2.7T, that would be a turbo engine. If it's a 2.8 or 3.0, then no turbo.

The winding is the Secondary Air Pump, it's a emissions things, they cost $1100 to have the dealer replace it. The part alone is $500.

I'm glad I stumbled over this thread b/c I didn't want to create another one. Sorry for the thread jack but I wanted to ask some questions also. I just recently bought a 1999 audi a6 2.7t (auto) with 120K milesfor my wife and got a good deal on it ($5k). It was a family hookup so I know it's reliable but for piece of mind I'm having it officially checked out by audi and having them do the 100 point inspection done on it ($100). I am concerned about regular maintenance which I plan on doing myself and the goal of this vehicle for me is comfort and style so my mods will surround those factors.

Around 120K miles I would like to know what should be done at this time. Let's assume worse case scenario the previous owner didn't take very good care of the vehicle which is hard to believe b/c it doesn't have much physical damage to it and is very clean inside exception of a broken mirror switch. I've already changed oil and filters, brake pads but not rotors (at least not yet). If you would like please post a reply here or reference this thread: https://www.audiforums.com/m_546307/tm.htm

As far as general knowledge is concerned:
are the A6's referenced with another name? Ex: my BMW03 325i is also known as an E46 m56 sedan.
Style wise are A6's and S6's similar?
Are there any other reputable audi forums?
Nice easy to navigate Audi A6 aftermarket site (that uses pictures)? I've checked the site sponsors page and checked out some of the sponsors but I'm notsatisfied with what I see. most mods are for A4's for example (not knocking a4's).

Best Regards,
-Kern-

Thanks for the help. I'm going to continue my reading.
The A6 (C5 chassis) did not have a 2.7T in North America until the 2000 model year. A6's 1999 and older were 2.8 non-turbo.
The attached picturesshow the difference in appearance:

Thanks for the info. I have already changed the oil and filter and went synthetic. I'm trying to get it back in top performance so only the best for the ride. I'm going to find that log book, owners manual and any other type of manual I need to get to better inform myself. Thanks again for the suggestion.

I really appreciate the info on the turbo... I have a 99 2.7t C5 A6 which kinda contradicts what daroshi is saying unless my car came from Canada which it hasn't. I also appreciate the info Daroshi but unless you can explain what I have in front of me then I'll have to say I have a time traveling ride that came to the US before it's time.

Now 2kS4, if you were me would you be concerned with that noise or is it normal? How would I know if it needs changing? I'm pretty handy so I plan on doing the work myself. Screw stealerships. I'm adding that information that you listed in regards to the turbo in my newbie intro thread listed above just for future reference. Thanks again for the info people.

It's not "normal" but is kind of normal. The pump just starts to make noise. Mine has been doing it for about 6 months. I really hate it, but I don't fell like spending $500 on something so stupid. The pump takes about 20min to remove. I tried to take it apart & lube it, but it's sealed.

All the pump does is inject air into the cats one a cold start, it's to help heat them up faster, that is ALL it does.

After a lot of research, I can only find the 2.8 non-turbo for the 1999 model year A6...
http://www.audiworld.com/model/a6/99/99-a6.shtml
The 2.7T and 4.2 V8 were introduced for the 2000 model year vehicles. According to the Bentley factory Audi service manual, the engine code APB 2.7T was first manufactured in Sept 1999, making it a 2000 model. Does anyone else (Audi tech?) have any more info to clarify?
Thanks!

Ok so let me first say this. Daroshi I have to apologize because you were right. I hope my sarcasm didn't **** you off before. I honestly appreciate your expertise in the matter and I know I'm a noob (with this car). Let me now explain why I'm sorry. I didn't purchase a 99 2.7t C5 A6, I purchased a 99 2.8 C5 A6. I did more research and found the same information that you posted and then I went down to my wife's car and looked at the rear and realized that it also said the same (2.8). So with that said I'm definately sorry bro and I've officially made an appointment with an optometrist .

With that said I guess it's clear to note that I don't have a turbo and I appreciate the input by everyone. I have been talking to a friend who owns a RS6 and he's told me that as far as styling goes Rs6 parts are compatible with A6 parts b/c the body is pretty much the same. With that said does anyone have any suggestions where I can find Rs6 parts for a 99 C5 A6?

Parts I'm looking for:
Mirrors - I believe there's autofolding feature. can someone confirm/deny?
RS6 instrumentation cluster-
Rs6 body kit- replica or authentic doesn't matter as long as the material and fitment is good.

I've searched and found body kit stuff from lltek.com (i think?) but the kits are more expensive than my 3series and I'm not too impressed with it. What are reputable body kit manufacturers or places where you can find mods for an A6? I've searched the sponsors section and not too impressed with it either.Any help would be appreciated.
