Now 2kS4, if you were me would you be concerned with that noise or is it normal? How would I know if it needs changing? I'm pretty handy so I plan on doing the work myself. Screw stealerships. I'm adding that information that you listed in regards to the turbo in my newbie intro thread listed above just for future reference. Thanks again for the info people.
It's not "normal" but is kind of normal. The pump just starts to make noise. Mine has been doing it for about 6 months. I really hate it, but I don't fell like spending $500 on something so stupid. The pump takes about 20min to remove. I tried to take it apart & lube it, but it's sealed.

All the pump does is inject air into the cats one a cold start, it's to help heat them up faster, that is ALL it does.
I have a writeup in word.doc on how to rebuild the pump.. PM me if you want me to email it to you, or anyone else.

Can you post it to the forum? Is it taking the whole thing apart of just the lower end? I took it apart as much as I could with out breaking it. The noise is less, but still there.

thanks for helping out with that word doc and I appreciate the offer. On another note, I was driving with my wife today in the A6 and we started smelling something burning. when we approached a light I told her pull over so I can check it out. It was coming from the passenger rearrotor. Note: before I got the car that rotor was replaced (drivers side rear wasnt'), brake pads were changed on all wheels, which now makes me think that the calipers are probably bad. Anyone have any solutions? Could the calipers be sticking when engaged and doesn't know when to dis-engage? I was looking into replacing all four calipers and pads again anyway but for a temporary fix until I order rotors and brakes does anyone think I should now include on the order calipers? I'm not going bbk b/c don't care for the performance mod. Rather spend the money wisely getting the ride back into shape. Thanks for the help.

Just came back from having the 100pt inspection done (aka 100K inspection) at Winner Audi in Wilmington DE and here's the rundown of things I need to fix:
Battery- $265 Battery throwing a code so after it's changed they may need to check my alternator to make sure it's actually working properly. Anyone know how much an alternator costs???

Wipers- $60 .... come on... need I go on?
Braking- They said my brake fluid is dirty which causes more wear on the pads and rotors so they recommend flushing it and changing brake fluid. $110. My question: Is there a component braking kit you can buy to service your brakes (ex: brake fluid, rotors pads, lines, calipers etc)
Injection cleaning- $110 cleans all injectors for the vehicle to ensure it's in top performing condition.. ehhh ok.
Power mirror switch- $110 it's broken. I know the part costs $55. Where's the extra $55 come from??? lol.... Seriously I want to change the mirrors to RS6 mirrors anyway. Do they autofold? Can I even change the mirrors to RS6 mirrors?
Timing belts- $975.... anyone see a problem with that number? Does that cost sound correct?Maybe it's me but Timing belts don't usually cost that much. I'm starting to think to myself that I have a project car on my hands... lol...

Grand total $1630 without rotors and pads. So now I'm off to shop around to get some of these parts.. Going to check out:
getcoolparts.com nad German parts online.com. Anyone have any other suggestions please chime in. I seriously would like some feed back on some of these parts.

Thanks
Kern

LOL, the ALT will be a couple of hundred, but more then likely a few hundred more to replace, it's at the bottom of the engine, & the front clip has to come off, wait until you to the TB job.

LOL, LOL! Brake fluid wears down the brakes more? This is some serious news to me! Dirty fluid will increase pedal travel & wear out the hydraulic components faster, that's it. Yea, if you are pushing the car, or the fluid is really bad, you can get brake fade from the fluid boiling, but that is either REALLY bad fluid, or you are really pushing the car.

Skip, put in some Redline SL1, it's $10

That is on the CHEAP side!!! The whole front end of the car needs to come off, it's a total PITA job, don't forget to change the WP & thermostat at the same time.

If you are going to have a shop do the work, purchase the parts from them! This way if something goes wrong, they are responsible. It's worth the extra 10-20%.

You can pick up remanufactured alternators off the internet for a couple hundred plus core charge. Mine blew on the other side of the state and the closest repair was a dealership. They wanted $600 for the alternator and $500 to install. I convinced them to accept my drop-shipped alternator and they installed.

At the same time you do the timing belt you should do the water pump (make sure it has metal impellers), all the tensioners, the thermostat, and the serpentine belt. I got my parts from www.blauparts.com which also included the coolant. I thought I was saving but it turned out to the be same as my indie would have charged me for parts: $355. So as 2k S4 says, let your shop supply the parts as long as he warrants them. The rebuild took 6 hours of shop time. Total tab was $805.
