uh oh looks like i may be in trouble need advice
hey guys well i just got off the phone today and my dealer told me that they just replaced the timing belt and waterpump but didnt replace the tentioner or guids,So im thinking i may bein trouble here. They said they looked fine and didnt need replacing, the car has 104,000 miles on it. Will it get me to summer you think and ill replace myself,I here that the guids and tentioners should be replaced at these miles since i have read that they can snap. The car looks like it was well maintained and such but i just want to know if i may need to take it to another shop and have this done again!
Also this is the dealer im buying the car from they agreed to do the change before i purchased, their not an audi dealer but a "classA lot" gm hummer \ corvette dealer so i worry that they dont know what to look for!
Thanks guys for your thoughts.
chris

Well if they didn't replace the thermostat either they straight ripped you off.
The tensioners can't snap, one of them is a roller, and the other one is hydraulic. So if either of them fails the belt would be loose but it wouldn't break. Over time it might slip a tooth which could be really bad for the cylinder heads.

I think the lesson to all readers is to be very specific with your repair garage for something this critical. Be sure to specify what you want replaced and ask for the old parts. It's not guarantee, but it helps.
Period.
