1999 A6 Quattro 2.7 178,000 miles

I just added 2 Qts of oil and had done an oil change about 2 months ago, not due for a change for atleast a month. No leaks in driveway. Dont smell or seem like I'm burning oil (no white smoke or smell)

Is this the first signs of needing a major engine overhaul?

I use Schaefers Synthetic Blend 5w-30 and change around 7500 miles.
Last oil change I had to add a qt as the oil light came on going around a corner. Didnt check how low, I just added a qt and than went an had an oil change.

This time. Same thing.. going around a steep curve entering freeway and oil light comes on. So I checked and it didn't even measure on the stick. Added 2 qts and it is still low, but at least it is on the stick.

This seems very excessive to me.

 

Believe it or not Audi specs oil use up to 1 quart per 1000 miles as acceptable...
Just keep it topped up unless it starts to smoke.
