Um. You can change the encoding on the transmission to go from normal to 'sport' (recode from 00000 to 00010), if you search around you'll see a lot of other encodings that you can choose from but these are all just for later model transmissions - you only get these two options in your '99 A6. See some info here: http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?p=14899294

You can change the encoding on the engine to go from a A6 2.8L response to the A4 2.8L response (change the last digit to a 1 instead of a 2, more here), some say this gives the car a little bit more response in the upper rpm range.

And you can change a BUNCH of stuff with the central locks, check it out here: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec36.shtml.

I think that's it though.

Interesting - I wasn't aware of coding options like this for the transmission. A friend of mine has an 01 A8L - you wouldn't know if there's a recode option for those cars would you, something more like maybe an S8 or a similar sport program? He loves the car but thinks the shifts are way too soft for his tastes.

Usually adding +1 to the second digit (to the right) puts 'stock' into 'sport' but I really don't know anything about the A8 encodings without doing extensive searching around.

Well that's definitely a good starting point - thank you. If he decides he wants to try it, I'll do the coding and report back.

Would changing the a6's ECU to the a4 make the ecu make 190 Horses instead of the 200 tuned for the a6?

You have an excellent point and I would assume so, yes. Those ratings are "SAE net" which means they're taken at the engine crankshaft and the only difference between the A4 and A6 2.8L is the ECU coding....I think! I'm not sure how all inclusive changing that one number does and whether it actually adjusts all the timing and what not, it'd be really cool for someone with a dyno to test it out to see what it actually does.

Of course I think my car is down to about 180hp nowadays anyway haha.
