Question Weird issue during acceleration

So I just bought a 2001 A6 2.7L biturbo Quattro with a 6-speed manual about a month ago. 150k on it with good service history, have many records and receipts. It's been running great until a couple days ago.

Driving it the other day I went to accelerate and the RPM went up quite a bit faster than it has been but it didn't accelerate as much as usual, the RPM then drops a bit and the acceleration kicks in. This seems to happen once I'm into 3rd gear and all the way up to 6th. Like it slips and then catches again.

I really am not too familiar with Audi's or even newer cars so I'm not sure where to start with diagnosing this. My best guess is maybe the clutch is slipping? I've worked on a lot of older cars and I'm pretty mechanically savvy but I don't know where to start with all the electronic stuff that's in cars now days. I thought about checking fluid, but I can't seem to find where to check it.

I've been poking around the forum and finding some helpful resources and things that would be handy to pick up and info to keep in mind.

Sorry, wall of text but I like to try and explain as best I can.

Any thoughts of what this might be?

So I need a new clutch then? Any idea about how much that could/should cost?

Yes, you need a new clutch. Call around for costs as they vary by area.
