What's the expected Tire Mileage (Outside Edge Wear)
I have a 2005 August A6 (C6) 3.2TDISaloon with 17,000 miles on its existing Front Tires: Michelin Pilot Premacy 225/55 R/6 99Y.Both are heavily worn on the outside rims. I'm arguing with my local Audi dealer that they should be checked for Toe/Camber misalignment, before I go buy another 2tires.Dealer so far refuses to do the work. (The fact that I'm having to argue my case, suggests I'm back to a Merc next year).
Should I be happy with 17,000 and just accept the Dealer statement that "All Quattros wear down the outer rims"? On my next set of new Michelins should I rotate these tires with the rears?
Appreciate any advise or comparitive mileage you might have. Thanks in advance guys 'n gals.

RE: What's the expected Tire Mileage (Outside Edge Wear)
Do you mean the outer edges both inside and outside or just the outer edge of the tire? Uneven tire wear can often be caused by inproper inflation as well. Typically if both the inner and outer edges are worn evenly, then you have an underinflation issue. If the center part of your tire was worn more than the rest then you are overinflated. Alignment would cause one edge or the other to wear prematurely but not for both inner and outer. So if you have just outside edge wear you may have a case. That said, if this is a known issue with the quattro, and the tires are not unidrectional, then you can flip them on the rim to get more life out of them if you so choose.

My wife's Quattro just keeps eating up the tires I bought and it turns outmy mechanic found that the upper and lower control arms are shot and need to be replaced. I'll be getting that done, buying new tires, and have an AWD alignment done to fix this problem. Of course ours is a '98 so I don't think in your case your control arms are bad.
If the dealer refuses to do the alignment, you might try calling an indy mechanic that has the equipment to perform AWD alignment.
