Post Where's my Cam position sensor?

I don't have a bentley manual and I am looking for the location of my cam position sensor on a 2001 4.2 Liter A6. Can someone help me out?

I had some misfire codes on cyls 5,6 7, & 8. Not likely all the coil packs went so I assumed cam position sensor. In fact, what side of the motor are cyls 5,6,7,8 on?

Thanks a lot !

OK I found the 2 cam position sensors. On the front of the head on the passengers side, just under the upper timing cover. The second on the back of the head on the drivers side. Cyls 5,6,7, & 8 on the drivers side front to back. cyls 1,2,3, & 4 on the passengers side front to back.

I replaced the cam position sensor on the passengers side bank because I was getting misfire codes on that side. It didn't work apparently. I still get the following codes:

multiple misfire
misfire cyl 5
misfire cyl 6
misfire cyl 7
misfire cyl 8

Any suggestions? Did I replace the correct side or is there some kind of ignition controller that controls each side independently?

Thanks

5, 6, 7, & 8 are bank 2. Driver side, not passenger side.

check to see if ur distributor cap is broken, thatll cause misfires also, and on top of that, if ur car starts to shake really bad for no reason when ur driving, thats signs of a possible cracked cap also
