The other night when i started my car and let it warm up...when i came out after about 10 mins it was smoking (white smoke)...it was coming from the exhaust and a little from the back side of the engine bay (passenger side)...i let it go for a little bit then turned it of for a couple of minutes...then started it back up and then the white smoke went away and it hasnt smoked since...could this possibly have something to do with a bad pcv valve/spider pipe?...i was having problems with that a month ago...ive got a 01 a6 2.7t

Check out that link, it gives you some info on which model you will need. They changed styles around 2001.5.
Its not that hard to remove, just those stupid clips can be stubborn.
1.) Remove Y-pipe. Remove screws holding coolant reservoir and swing out of the way.
2.) Disconnect Hoses from spider pipe to each valve cover.
3.) Pull out the 1/4" hose from the crank to the FPR
4.) Pull 2 hoses from crank to the brake booster. (5/16" hose and 1/2" hose)
**Be careful, my suction pump broke when i tried to remove it. only $20 part but still annoying.
5.) Disconnect the 3/8" hose going to the N75 valve on the top passenger side of the intake manifold.
6.) I have a 2000 automatic A6, i removed the secondary air pump. (2) 10mm bolts on top of intake manifold and (1) 10mm bolt on drivers side rear of pump. You can leave it connected, just swing it out of the way.
7.) Reach back in there and fight with the lower clip on the spider pipe that goes to the block. Its a tight area and a pain in the A$$ but it will eventually come out.
Install is just the reverse. It isnt too hard just take your time and make sure that you connect everything back together. It would be hard to put them in the wrong place because all the hoses are shaped a certain way, but you still might want to label them since its your first time.
