1998 A6 Quattro - 176k

Last night I rolled down the drivers window then it would not go up. I have replaced the window clips a couple years ago, with the updated pink clips, the old clips were busted out.
The window controls would not roll the window up, but using the key in the door the window rolled up thankfully. Same thing happens with the passenger window. The passenger window controls will roll the window down but not up.

Any ideas?

 

If you try closing the window using the door switch does it do nothing? or does it goes up maybe 1/2" with each press of the button?

 

sounds like a switch problem. does your '98 have the "one touch" switches, where it will go all the way up or down without you having to hold the switch?

 

The door switch will lower the window part way down depending on how long you hold the switch. The switch will also lower the window all the way down it with the one touch feature. Both the driver and passenger window switches lower the window but not raise the window.

 

Probably your driver side master switch went haywire.

 

In order to swap out the master switch is it the panel with the for buttons in the door or is it a separate part from that?
